I went to see Cavalia a few weeks ago with the family and had a great time. Cavalia was created by Normand Latourelle, one of the original founders of Cirque du Soleil and featuresfeatures dancers, acrobats, 49 horses and live music. There are 19 stallions and 30 geldings, all different breeds of horses. The show explores the relationship between humans and horses and showcases how beautiful the horses are. There is a lot of impressive trick riding. A lot of the segments reminded me a lot of Lord of the Rings because the riders were wearing long robes, sitting atop white horses. It reminded me a lot of the elves!
Cavalia is located at the Olympic Village and is here until May 8th. Check out their website for ticket prices and showtimes.

Prom - Movie Review
Many highschooler's look forward to prom as it's the one last party you will have with all your classmates before you graduate, but Disney's newest movie, Prom, makes it seem like it's the biggest event in your life EVER. Prom follows class president and the main organizer of prom, Nova (Aimee Teegarden) getting everything ready a few weeks before the big night. Everything is perfect - until a fire destroys all the prom decorations. Everyone is busy with final exams so the principal assigns Jesse (Thomas McDonell), the school's bad boy to help Nova rebuild everything. Jesse is everything that Nova isn't and the two butt heads at the beginning, but as they work together, Nova realizes Jesse isn't what he seems. Other subplots include classmates trying to find prom dates last minute, betrayals, and relationships and friendships being put to the test.
Typical to Disney fashion, there is a happy ending for everyone but I thought the movie was very unrealistic. Also a few of the lead characters had facial hair, and really, no boy in highschool has facial hair. Maybe find a younger cast, Disney? This movie is definitely aimed toward a younger audience, and pre-teens would probably enjoy Prom. Just make sure they don't get Prom crazy, because it's really not that big a deal.
Prom is in theatres everywhere tomorrow, Friday April 29th.

Fast Five - Movie Review
Fast Five is the latest of The Fast and the Furious franchise, bringing back the original cast, as well as a majority of the cast from the other three movies. Fast Five starts off right where Fast and Furious left off. Brian (Paul Walker) and Mia (Jordana Brewster) are about to bust out Dom (Vin Diesel) from the bus that is taking him to jail for life. In a highly unrealistic scene the bus flips over a car, smashing the bus to bits and amazingly no one gets hurt. Dom gets away and the trio run off to Brazil.
Brian and Mia arrive in Rio de Janeiro where they find Vince (Matt Schulze) who convinces them to join him in a job to steal cars from a train. Dom arrives to help and realizes the crew is only interested in one of the cars, which he instructs Mia to drive away with and meet up with him later. There are DEA agents on the train, who sees that the train is being robbed, and after a shoot-out, Brian and Dom escape, only to be caught by Hernan Reyes, the owner of the cars and a business man who is the crime lord that runs Rio. Dom discovers there is a chip in the car that lists all of Reyes' money laundering activities. He decides to pull a heist to steal all of Reyes' money and with Brian, puts together a crew that consists of all the characters from the last four movies. Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) is called in to Rio to arrest Dom and Brian. With Hobbs on their tail, the crew has to outwit them as well as the police and Reyes' men.
Fast Five disappointed in that it did not involve much street racing (almost non-existent!) but instead, was very Ocean's Eleven-esque. The movie was more about a robbery more than anything. No import cars? :( Also it seemed out of character for most of the cast - most of the characters weren't involved in crime, but all of a sudden they are joining together to rob a bank? And let's not even start with Paul Walker's character being a cop/FBI then throwing that away to rescue Dom and live life on the run.
The movie was action packed, so it's still worth watching. I enjoyed it enough, and the car chase scene with the bank vault was exciting. A lot of the action sequences were very hard to believe, I mean, come on, how does a car not get smashed up or even scratched when you're driving like a maniac crashing into everything? But who cares about all of that, right? The question you're probably dying to ask is - who would win in a fight, Vin Diesel or The Rock??? I guess you'll just have to watch to find out (I'm rooting for Vin Diesel).
There is a scene at the end of the credits that sets up the 6th (and the last, so they say) movie where Eva Mendes gets to reprise her character as Monica Fuentes and they bring Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) back! *gasp*
Fast Five comes out in theatres this Friday, April 29th. You can also watch it in IMAX.

Textuality - Movie Review
Textuality, starring Jason Lewis and Carly Pope is about the two trying to find love while balancing multiple relationships via BBM and SMS. Lewis plays financial planner Breslin, whose heart was broken when his fiance left him at the alter (I'm just guessing this, as I was actually busy on my Blackberry (Oops! Fitting for this movie, no?) when the opening credits started rolling that shows a bunch of cut scenes of his relationship). He now has a "roster" of women that he juggles and manages through text messaging and skype. Simone (Pope) is in a similar situation. She is involved with four different men, and they all know about each other. She is waiting for her married lover, Clive (Eric McCormack), to leave his wife, which he will once he finds the right time to tell her.
Breslin and Simone meet by chance when he hits her with his car and from there, their relationship starts. Things start to unravel when all the women in Breslin's life find out about his other relationships, while Simone breaks it off with her men, only to find out Breslin was involved with her art teacher!
This movie is relevant to how much society uses their phones and social media to communicate nowadays, and how easy it could be to be in so many relationships via text messaging. However, the script leaves something to be desired and the actors try their best but it's a sinking ship. My sister and I were literally the only ones in the theatre. And that's not something to LOL about.
Textuality is out in theatres now.
Which tablet is the best on the market?
With new tablets flooding the market, which one have you chosen to buy?
Apple iPad 2
The second generation of the iPad is now thinner and lighter than the first gen. With the addition of two camera (one front and one back), it gives you facetime and the ability to record videos in HD. It has a 9.7 inch screen with LED backlighting The battery life is about 10 hours, which I really liked from the first generation iPad because I rarely had to charge it. With the launch of the iPad 2, Apple has also released the new Smart Cover, which magnetically fits together and keeps the iPad screen clean. When you close it, the iPad shuts off, and when you open it, it turns on. It's only a mere $39.
Once again, the iPads come in 16, 32 and 64 GB with or without 3G. You also get the choice of a white or black iPad 2. There is still no Flash support (Thanks a lot, Jobs) but with hundreds of apps available from iTunes, you probably can keep busy just playing games or trying out new apps.
Price: Starting at $519 for Wi-Fi only; $649 for Wi-Fi + 3G
Samsung Galaxy Tab
Samsung announced the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in February during the Mobile World Congress, and followed uhe tablets are both thinner than their predecessor (8.6mm) with a 1GHz dual core processor. There are two cameras: 2mp front facing and 3mp rear, offering 1080p HD video. Thep with the announcement of the Galaxy Tab 8.9 a month later. Compared to the first tab (7.0) T Galaxy tabs are Flash enabled (hurray!) and run on Android 3.0.
Price: ?? I don't believe these tabs are available in Canada yet, but the first generation Galaxy Tab starts at$449.99 so I'm guessing the price range is a little higher than this.
Motorola Xoom
Motorola also released a tablet of their own earlier this month. Like the Samsung Galaxy Tab, it runs on Android 3.0 and has a dual-core processor. It has a 10.1 inch screen and a front (2mp) and back (5mp) facing camera. There is a full-function camcorder that allows you to take video in HD. And best of all, it supports Flash!
Price: $599.99
Blackberry Playbook
RIM is the latest company to roll out a tablet. The Blackberry Playbook with Wi-Fi has a 7 inch LCD display and comes in 16, 32 and 64GB formats. It boasts a 1 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB RAM, Flash support and has a 3mp front facing camera and 5mp rear-facing camera. The Playbook allows you to connect with your Blackberry smartphone to accress your email, contacts, calendar, etc.
Price: Starting at $499.99
Of course, these are not the only tablets that are out in the market, but they seem to be the most popular ones, associated with the greatest companies. Which one are you eyeing? Just looking at these tablets has me salivating, but I'm partial to the Samsung Galaxy Tab (no bias here, nope). Can't wait to get my hands on one...Let me know which one you have and how you like it! I'm going to run off and play with the tablets at the nearest electronics store!

FREE Amazon Gift Cards - Swagbucks & Irazoo!
Swagbucks is an awesome search and win site where you can earn rewards FAST. It's easy to do and you get 30 swagbucks right away if you use the link below. So far I have cashed out for $320 Amazon.ca gift cards. There are tons of prizes to choose from, like other gift cards, cards, comics, Wii and PS3 consoles, Nintendo DS, you name it! So many prizes to choose from!
All you have to do is search and you might be rewarded with points. The fastest way to earn is through swagcodes, that are released several times a day. You can find it through their blog, searchbar, facebook, twitter, etc. Also there are points for daily polls, checking out the survey link and the daily special offers link! Now they have also added SwagTV, where you watch videos and earn 3 swagbucks for every 10 videos you watch. As well, they have partnered up with all of those Groupon type deals, and if you buy a coupon, you are rewarded with swagbucks!
Irazoo is another great search and win site that I've been using for even longer than Swagbucks. They recently changed it so that it's just like Swagbucks - you win points for searching, and there are also treasure codes. As a summer special, they brought back the rate and earn portion of points - when you do a search, you can comment and rate a site for 50 points. They limited it to 100 points a day though (used to be 300!).
Canadians are only allowed to redeem for Amazon.com gift cards, but if you live in the states, you have access to the other prizes as well, like gaming consoles, cameras, computers and other gift cards. I have already cashed out for $160 Amazon.com gift cards!

Professor Layton and the Unwound Future - Game Review
I finally finished the third Professor Layton Nintendo DS game, Professor Layton and the Unwound Future! The latest adventure finds the professor and his apprentice, Luke, attending a demonstration for a time machine where things go awry and the machine explodes, the Prime Minister and the scientist vanishing without a trace. Professor Layton receives a letter from someone who claims to be a future Luke. Layton and Luke have travel to the future to solve this mystery and bring back the Prime Minister.
There are 13 chapters in this game and the story delves into Layton's past so you learn more about the people he knew and how they all came to be (and who he got the top hat from!). Once again, the graphics of this game are superb and the story very well done. Like the previous two Professor Layton games, you walk around town and converse with people you meet, solving puzzles along the way. There are over 160 puzzles in this game, which will keep you busy for a long time. Indeed, I found this to be the longest Professor Layton game out of the three. One new feature is the 4th clue - previous games only gave 3 hints per puzzle, and the inclusion of the 4th clue made many of the puzzles much too easy. Many times it essentially gave the answer to the puzzle. The side games include Toy Car, Parrot and Picture Book, which were fun enough, if a bit challenging!
I definitely recommend Professor Layton and the Unwound Future to any fans of the Professor Layton series (see Professor Layton and the Curious Village and Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box! It is bound to provide you with hours and hours of entertainment!

Do You Own Your Own Business?
I went to The National Franchise and Business Opportunities Show this weekend because my sister and I have been wanting to start a business of some sort (no idea what though) for some time now, and we decided to check out this show to see if anything piqued out interested. There weren't too many companies there - mostly restaurants, coffee shops and beauty product companies. The only one that I was really interested in was vending machines and we went to several information sessions but decided that it wasn't for us, only because I think the market is saturated already and Vancouver is too health-conscious for there to be much money made. Not to mention we both work full time so it would be difficult to find the time to stock the machines! We are back to square one now. Any ideas? Do you have your own home-based business or do you own a franchise?

African Cats - Movie Review
DisneyNature's newest movie, African Cats, focuses on two mothers: a lioness with a cub and a cheetah with five newborns. The film shows their struggles to protect their cubs against predators, and finding food to raise the cubs into adulthood. Samuel L. Jackson narrates this documentary, beautifully shot in the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. The lions and cheetahs are given names to make it more kid-friendly, and it makes it easier for younger audiences to grasp the concept of what is happening - life and death in the wild. It's the circle of life *breaks into song*.
The footage is amazing and breathtaking, and you can't help but watch in awe as the lions and cheetah hunt. The store was a bit cheesy - Samuel L. Jackson is always talking about a mother's love - but if you are a fan of documentaries like Blue Planet and Planet Earth, this movie is not to be missed. Just watching the majestic cats on the big screen is worth it alone!
African Cats comes out in theatres this Earth Day, April 22.

Video Games Live
I just came back from Video Games Live, an orchestral performance of some classic video game music! With a live orchestra, a choir, video and lighting, it was a pretty amazing concert. They ran started off with the very first arcade game, Pong, and ran through classics like Street Fighter, Duck Hunt, Frogger, Sonic, God of War, Final Fantasy and some more recent games like Halo Reach. It's always really cool to see live orchestra playing and this was no exception. It was even more fun that they were playing songs that people are very familiar with and showing scenes from the game made it that much cooler.
The creator of the show, Tommy Tallarico, joined in the by playing the electric guitar. Laura Intravia was the vocalist as well as the flautist and the first song she sang was an opera to Tetris! It was pretty epic, I have to say. Her performance of songs from Zelda was hilarious, as she dressed up as Zelda and Ciela kept interrupting.
There was some audience participation, someone playing Frogger while the orchestra played music according to what you were doing. They also held a Guitar Hero competition before the concert and the winner was invited up onto stage to play an Aerosmith song on Guitar Hero and get 125,000 points (he chose expert level and got WAY over 125,000 points). There were prizes given to these participants (Xbox Kinect, Frogger, Futureshop gift cards etc) as well as prize draws. A lucky winner went home with a PS3 AND a PSP. I'm a little bit jealous of that haha.
I was in total awe of Martin Leung, the pianist, who was discovered through his Youtube video of him performing the Super Mario theme blindfolded. This was actually how he was recruited to be on the tour. It was pretty amazing and made me want to rush home and learn Super Mario music myself (not blinded folded of course). If you're inspired to play crazy fast and well just like Martin, check out this site to print out your own Mario sheet music for free!
Video Games Live is performing in Vancouver for only one more day, April 14th, so get your tickets now! Any gamer (or non-gamer) shouldn't miss this! Also there is a special discount offer of 50% off any balcony seat tickets - the discount code is Canucks. Enjoy!

UBC LipDub!
About two weeks ago, UBC filmed the LipDub on the Vancouver campus featuring Pink's Raise Your Glass and Marianas Trench's Celebrity Status. After the wildly popular lipdub videos done by other universities (they did songs by Black Eyes Peas and Train), it was only a matter of time before UBC did one! Josh Ramsay of Marianas Trench has a little cameo in the video as well. I didn't end up participating (really wanted to sleep in!) but you can see my sister at 2:14 on the 3rd floor of the library. The video raises money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation so make sure to watch it!

Hanna - Movie Review
Saoirse Ronan, Eric Bana and Cate Blanchett star in Hanna, a thriller directed by Joe Wright. Hanna (Ronan) is the daughter of a rouge CIA operative (Bana) who was raised to be the perfect soldier - stronger, faster, fearless. Hanna's father has trained her to be the perfect assassin and to go to Germany and kill Marissa (Blanchett), the person who was in charge of the project to create the perfect soldiers.
The movie was very intense, and Saoirse Ronan did a brilliant job in this physically demanding role. It was thrilling to watch the chase but a lot of things go unexplained so it doesn't feel like the whole story has been told. One was why did Marissa put an end to the project? What happens to Hanna in the end? So many questions! I enjoyed the movie. It was enthralling and the more you watch Hanna, the more layers you see of her as she learns how to survive in the real world.
Hanna comes out in theatres this Friday, April 8th.
Ke$ha - Blow Music Video
I just watched Ke$ha's Blow music video. Pretty funny! Weird with the unicorns though. James Van Der Beek has a role in it and he is hilarious - "Munster is like edible lactose gold." There are some flashes where Ke$ha totally looks like Britney Spears. Do you think so?
Arthur - Movie Review
Arthur is a comedy remake of the 1981 film of the same name, now starring Russell Brand as Arthur, a wealthy playboy who is always drunk and has an over-the-top lavish lifestyle. He embarrasses his mother, which in turn causes her to lose investors in the family company so she gives him an ultimatum - marry Susan Johnson (Jennifer Garner), a business woman who works at the company, or lose his inheritance. He is against the arranged marraige but doesn't want to give up being wealthy. Things get more complicated when Arthur falls in love with a working-class woman, Naomi Quinn (Greta Gerwig). He turns to his nanny, Hobson (Helen Mirren), for advice but the choice is ultimately up to him.
While I am not a fan of Russell Brand, I thought he was pretty hilarious in Arthur. Of course, the character is quite a reflection of his old life, wasn't it? The movie was funny, and the audience was laughing uproariously all the time. I recommend Arthur to anyone who wants a light-hearted, fun romantic comedy.
Arthur comes out in theatres this Friday, April 8th.

Free Beverage @ Starbucks (Apr 22)
In celebration of Earth Day, Starbucks is offering free coffee or tea if you bring in your own reusable mug into any location. This is a great promotion to remind people that you can save tons of paper cups from the landfills if you just use a reusable mug! As an added incentive, Starbucks offer a 10 cent discount on your drink when you use your own mug.
Free Tacos @ Taco Bell (Apr 7-13)
From the week of April 7 to 13th, Taco Bell across Canada is offering free tacos between 3-6pm. I think they are trying really hard in the wake of the lawsuit that questioned the "beef" in their taco fillings. I loooove tacos and if I had the time and was near a Taco Bell, I would be so there! Anyway, just a heads up that this promotion is starting later this week.

Contest: Captain Planet DVD
If you were a kid in the 90's, then you might remember an animated series called Captain Planet and the Planeteers! My sister and I absolutely LOVED this show, and I don't even really remember what the show was about except that it was a bunch of kids with rings that represented each element, and they fought evil alongside Captain Planet. It sounds really cheesy (and it probably was!) now that I'm writing about it. I didn't have cable when I was young, so whenever I was at my aunt and uncle's place, I would be really excited when Captain Planet came on the telly.
Now Captain Planet and the Planeteers is finally coming out on DVD! ZOMG! Annnnnd, Sweeps4bloggers is holding a contest for it! EEEE! It's easy to enter, check it out! Good luck (but I'm secretly hoping I will win it haha!).

Vancouver International Auto Show 2011
I checked out the Vancouver International Auto Show yesterday! This year it was held at the Convention Centre and man, was it packed! I don't really care much about cars, but shiny new cars = nice. It was cool to see what the latest models were though, and of course, got a few freebies along the way! ;) Did any of you go this year?
Katy Perry - E.T. Music Video
Have any of you watched Katy Perry's newest music video? It's for E.T. featuring Kanye West. I just watched it this week and thought it was really weird. It's actually quite reminiscent of Lady Gaga's Born This Way video! What is up with all the weird music video's lately?
