Steveston is holding their annual Salmon Festival on July 1, in celebration of Canada Day. The day begins with a parade through the Steveston village, starting at 10am. There will be many things to see, including a trade show, craft fair, Japanese Cultural Show, art exhibits, activities for children and many more. Of course, the main attraction is the salmon barbeque - over 1,000 pounds of wild salmon filets are grilled and served to the public. Truffle Pigs from Hagensborg Chocolates
Hagensborg Chocolates is a local company in Vancouver that produces and markets the highest quality European chocolates. I recently got my hands on a small box of milk chocolate Truffle Pigs and they are indeed delicious! On top of that, they are really adorable too! Hagensborg Chocolates make pig shaped chocolates because pigs were used to sniff out truffles in the forests. I thought I would share some pictures of the chocolates just because they are so cute!
For more information about Hagensborg Chocolates or to order your own Truffle Pigs, check out their website here.
A cute little box. Notice the spelling mistake though? |
The box flattens out when opened! |
It's almost too cute to eat! |

Scissor Sisters Concert Pictures @ The Commodore Ballroom
Right after the Samsung Galaxy SIII launch party on Wednesday night, I headed on over to the Commodore Ballroom to hit up my next concert - The Scissor Sisters! Unfortunately, my friend arrived extremely late so I missed all the opening acts, and didn't get a good spot for pictures.
The concert itself was amazing - everyone was really into it and my friend and I danced up a storm! The Scissor Sisters performed many songs from their newest album, Magic Hour, as well as older hits and fan favorites like Take Your Mama Out, and my personal favorite, I Don't Feel Like Dancin'. They ended their set with it before the encore, and once it came on, everyone went crazy and started dancing even harder! They performed Only The Horses and another song for the encore, which I forget. Scissor Sisters has such catchy songs that just makes you want to bust a move and dance your heart out! I can't wait till they come back to Vancouver for their next tour!
Here are some pictures from the concert (sorry, they aren't very good!):
Here's a video of Baby Come Home - it's one of my favorites from their new album, it's just so catchy! For more videos from the concert, check out my Youtube channel.

Jake Shears, Ana Matronic, Del Marquis |
Backup singers - it was the birthday of one of them so Ana Matronic led the audience in a rendition of Happy Birthday! |
I have to say, they have the most interesting outfits ever. |
Let's have a kiki! |
I think this is Jake's oddest outfit over the evening - it looked like a raincoat sort of deal. |

Nintendo Wii Games on sale @ Futureshop
This week at Futureshop, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Donkey Kong Country Returns are $20 off the regular price, on now for $29.99. As well, the Nintendo Selects titles are Buy 2 Get 1 Free! There are 10 titles to choose from, and go for $19.99. With the sale, it only works out to only $13.33 each, which is the cheapest I've seen it!
Just Dance 3 & Black Eyed Peas Experience - $19.83 @ Walmart
This week, Walmart has Just Dance 3 as well as the Black Eyed Peas dancing video games on sale for only $19.83. Regularly, these games are $39.99 and $29.99, respectively. The Just Dance line of games is a really popular hit and so much fun - I personally have all 3! This price is good for the game on all platforms (however the flyer only states for PS3 and XBox 360 so you may want to double check). Remember you can price match at another electronics store to maximize your savings!

Samsung Galaxy S III Launch with Down With Webster
Samsung Canada held launch parties in three cities last night for the newest phone in the Galaxy S line - the Galaxy S III. Samsung usually invites a Canadian band to perform at the launch (see Galaxy Launch with Faber Drive) and Vancouver got to rock out with Down With Webster! Sam Roberts Band performed in Montreal and Cobra Starship played in Toronto.
The events leading up to the concert were pretty awesome to watch. There were dancers, acrobats, hoola-hoops, great music, and a candy bar (!) where you can satisfy your sweet tooth.
Down With Webster was great, and the crowd was really into it! They performed their hits Whoa Is Me and Professional, among others. Everyone received flashing wristbands when they came through the door, so it was cool to see everyone lit up! It was definitely a fun night - Samsung sure knows how to throw a party!

There was also time to check out the Galasy S III smartphone - it's a beauty! It's a very slim and light phone and has many new features. The phone comes out in Canada on June 27th in white or pebble blue and will be available with any carrier in Vancouver.
This photo was taken with the Galaxy S III - it turned out very well even though the lighting was poor!! Amazing camera. |

Car-Free Day @ Commercial Drive
I checked out the Car-Free Day festivities for the first time this year, and chose to stroll down Commercial Drive. The entire street was blocked off for the celebrations, and there were large crowds just milling around, and vendors in the street. There were a lot of performances going on around as well, and tons of food to purchase. It was a giant party and definitely a lot of fun, plus there was a great sense of community!
A sea of people! |
A couch on the street. Rollerskating area. |
Just jump in and start drumming! |
