Kent Houston, the founder and CEO of Patch created the perfect solution for urbanites who don’t have a backyard, by creating the Patch planter, officially launched earlier this year. The Patch planter is 12”x6”x6”, holds 4 litres of soil and has a water reservoir that holds 2 litres of water. It uses a sub-irrigation process that takes the guess work out of watering your plants. The small size makes it convenient to place on a windowsill or counter top in your kitchen, and grow your own herbs or other small edible plants!
The Patch Planter is simply designed and comes in three different colours – classic white, grey ombre and icon jumble. You can purchase your own online or at certain restaurants that carry them. Locals have the option of getting a Patch that is already set up, complete with soil and planted herbs. Each planter comes fully packed with all the parts and an instruction sheet on how to assemble the planter, and what you need to do to take care of your plants. The instructions were very easy to follow and it only took me a few minutes to put together.

Vancouver is such a green community and everyone loves growing their own foods in their gardens. There’s not much that can compare to harvesting your own fruits, veggies and herbs from your own garden. A patch planter could be the perfect gift this Christmas for those with a budding green-thumb!
