Conan the Barbarian - Movie Review

Conan the Barbarian is another remake out in theatres this summer, based on the original movie from 1982. Jason Momoa fills Arnold Schwarzenegger's shoes as Conan. When he was a boy, Conan's father was murdered and his village destroyed by Khalar Zym, on a quest to reunite the scattered pieces of the Mask of Acheron, a powerful object that would make him a God. Conan makes it his quest to find the man responsible for killing his father and on the way must save Tamara (Rachel Nichols), a "pure blood" descendant of the sorcerers whose blood would awaken the Mask of Acheron. Rose McGowan plays Marique, the witch daughter of Khalar Zym.

There is not too much of story to Conan, except that he fights and kills without much differentiating between the good and bad guys. There is plenty of blood splattering and it gets pretty graphic, especially in 3D, so this movie is not for the faint of heart. The sweeping CGI landscapes are beautiful but that's pretty much all I have to say for this movie. Even Momoa makes for a really creepy looking Conan. I almost prefer Schwarzengger instead.

Conan the Barbarian hits theatres everywhere today.
