Nerd Block Classic Subscription Box - [December 2016 Unboxing]

You know I can't resist sales sometimes and this was the case with the Nerd Block Classic. Nerd Block offered 50% off all their blocks for Black Friday and when I heard there were going to be 4 Star Wars Rogue One items included, I hit that subscribe button. Unfortunately with the holidays, the mail got held up and I received my December Nerd Block pretty late. But here it is, finally!

We get a Protect the Galactic Empire lanyard with a Death Trooper keychain and a plastic sleeve. Perfect for my bus pass.

We also get a four pack of coasters that features a stormtrooper, Darth Vader, a death trooper and the death star. While useful, these coasts are made of cheap compressed cardboard so I am not sure how well they will hold up after a few uses and they get wet.

One of my most dreaded things to get in a subscription box is a mug because I have so many now! But here is a chrome Darth Vader mug. I thought it was a little weird not to make it a chrome black but it's silver - I think Captain Phasma would have been a better candidate for creating a chrome mug!

We also get a Death Trooper coin bank! Into the gift pile since I rarely have any coins anymore.

The last item was a little out of place - we get a Transformers decepticon shirt. I'm not really a fan of Transformers so I was a bit disappointed. Where is the Star Wars shirt?

I thought the December Nerd Block Classic was a bit hohum. Nothing really wowed me. I've cancelled my subscription for now, but who knows what will happen during the next 50% off sale (spoiler: I'll probably re-subscribe)?

The Nerd Block starts at $19.99 USD month to month, plus shipping and HST. The February subscriptions are open now and will include items from Back to the Future, Doctor Strange and Donnie Darko.

Loot Crate Sanrio Small Gift Subscription Box - [First Unboxing]

I thought I was done with subscription boxes for a while, but nope! Loot Crate announced a collaboration with Sanrio to release the Sanrio Small Gift Crate in October, a quarterly subscription that would be filled with adorable Sanrio items. As a kid, I never got to go to the Sanrio store because things were too expensive. So I really wanted to subscribe to this...and I didn't. At least, not right away. I actually waited an entire month until there was a Black Friday sale of 25% off all subscription boxes and I subscribed for the entire year! I finally received the first Sanrio Small Gift box and I was so pleased with the contents. Take a look!

The box itself is pretty cute. The sides are printed with the most popular Sanrio characters.

When you open up the box, there is a cute Sanrio wrapping with a little bauble attached. From watching a few other unboxing videos, apparently Sanrio stores used to attached something like this to all your purchases.

Like all Loot Crate boxes, the inside is printed so you can flip it inside out and have a cool looking box. Sanrio seems to be rebranding to "Hello Sanrio".

The first item is a simple grey tshirt. It has all the characters falling out of the pocket. The shirt is really soft and a thinner stretchy material, which I don't particularly like.

An adorable journal - it's fun looking at the design and seeing all the characters! A sheet of puffy stickers are also included and the pages have characters printed on it.

A Hello Sanrio pen and eraser set. The erasers are round heads of all the characters. I collected erasers as a kid so this is going to be perfect in the collection!!

A super useful pouch. I'll probably use this for travel.

A bag clip.

A pretty hefty Hello Kitty vinyl figure. I like it except for the fact that Hello Kitty is covered in silver sparkles.

The booklet that tells you the contents of the box is printed on this cute Hello Sanrio cityscape on the back.

What did you think of the first Loot Crate Sanrio Small Gift Crate? You can subscribe yourself over here. You have until March to order the next box!

1Up Box Subscription Box - Survival [June 2016 Unboxing]

1Up Box released a $5 off coupon in the last week of June, so I decided to go ahead and order! I can never resist a good discount! The theme for June 2016 was Survival and they promised a Funko Pop vinyl figure.

I thought the contents were a bit sparse this time, and probably because they had to spend more money to include a Funko Pop. There were four Pops available from the video game Bioshock Infinite. I don't play the game so I'm unfamiliar with the characters; I was glad I didn't receive something creepy like a zombie from The Walking Dead though! I got Booker DeWitt - unfortunately, my sister who is a fan, already purchased this one!

The remaining contents were all filler items: a Jurassic Park sticker, a 1Up Box exclusive Daryl Dixon vest key cover, a Vault Boy keychain and the June 2016 Survival button.

The t-shirt was a black Gildan shirt with a mashup between Jurassic Park and The Walking Dead.

The July theme is Squad and will contain a Funko Pop again! There definitely will be items from Suicide Squad. Sign up for the 1Up Box here.

Funko Star Wars Smuggler's Bounty Subscription Box - Cantina [March 2016 Unboxing]

I cancelled my subscription to Smuggler's Bounty but when Funko released a hint about what was in the box, I had to resubscribe! There was a bit of trouble of re-subscribing due to a payment error on their website, but after some back and forth with customer service, I was good to go!

My box arrived quite early this month, with it arrive last week. The theme this month was Cantina and the box came with an adorable picture of Greedo.

Like all Funko subscription boxes, a pin and patch are included. The pin features a cantina band member and the patch has Greedo.

Next there was a Chewbacca Pop Pen. Funko recently started releasing these pens in stores, mostly Marvel characters. I believe they run around $6-8 in stores in Canada.

There were four designs for the t-shirts this month. All of them are "Wanted" shirts. I was hoping for Han Solo, but I got Muftak insead. I was hoping for another Funko Pop shirt but I guess they don't do that every time!

Finally, there were two Funko Pops included this month. The clue that they gave was that both were new molds and one was going to be Ben Kenobi. There is a Obi-Wan Kenobi pop already with his hood up but the Ben has his hood off and is holding a light saber.

The next is a Red Snaggletooth - one of the random aliens found in the Cantina scene. There was also a 1 in 5 chance of receiving the chase Blue Snaggletooth! The Blue Snaggletooth is in reference to the action figure that Kenner made in 1978 - they only had a black and white photo of the character as reference but the alien in the movie wore red and not blue.

I wasn't a huge fan of the items this month but you can't say the value isn't there!

The Smuggler's Bounty box is available in Canada and the US only and ships out every other month. The cost of the box is $25 usd + $14 shipping to Canada ($7 shipping in the US), with a guaranteed value of $50. The May theme is Bounty Hunter.
Check out the Funko Smuggler's Bounty if you want to subscribe to your own box! You have until May 15, 2016 to get your order in for the next one!

Funko Star Wars Smuggler's Bounty Subscription Box - The Resistance [January 2016 Unboxing]

The January Funko Smuggler's Bounty box has arrived! The theme this month is The Resistance, also from Star Wars The Force Awakens. The adorable BB8 is printed on the front of the box. The box was pretty hefty....

This is what you first see when you flip over the cover of the box:

All the Funko subscription boxes comes with an iron patch and a lapel pin. We got a very cute BB8 patch this month.

And also a resistance x-wing fighter pilot. I'm not sure if it is supposed to be Poe Dameron or not...if it is, it looks nothing like him! What do you guys think?

The t-shirt this month is another Funko Pop branded one and features all the good guys in the resistance. I read that the tees come in four different colours, all with the same design. I got charcoal grey. I switched the size to small this month since the last one I got in medium was HUGE. However, I'm hoping I can still fit this after it shrinks in the wash.

The Funko Pop included is a flocked Chewbacca! Funko gave a clue earlier on that something would be flocked and I think most people guessed it would be Chewie, since he's the only hairy character in the Resistance. They didn't use a printed Smuggler's Bounty Exclusive box this time and actually reused the same box that regular Chewbacca (that looks exactly the same except without the fuzz) comes in and stuck an exclusive sticker on instead.

Here's a look of Chewbacca outside of the box. You can take the stand off since it's only attached by two pegs.

The last item is a Pop Home item - a C-3PO mug. The handle is red which reflects the red arm that C-3PO had in the new movie. Very cool! I'm not that big a fan of the Pop mugs because they are really bulky and awkward to drink from.

Here's everything that came in the January 2016 Smuggler's Bounty box. Only five items this time. I think their debut box was a lot better!

The Smuggler's Bounty box is available in Canada and the US only and ships out every other month. The cost of the box is $25 usd + $14 shipping to Canada ($7 shipping in the US), with a guaranteed value of $50. The exchange rate has been dropping so it cost me over $56 this month. The March theme is Cantina - maybe we'll finally find out if Han shot first??

Check out the Funko Smuggler's Bounty if you want to subscribe to your own box! You have until March 15, 2016 to get your order in for the next one!

Nerd Block Classic Subscription Box - Neverending Stories [January 2016 Unboxing]

My Nerd Block Classic subscription box has arrived! The January 2016 theme was Neverending Stories, with nerdy stuff from Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. I ordered this with the 50% off Boxing Day code back in December and crossed my fingers there were some good stuff (I was still sad I didn't order the December box with all the Star Wars items!).

When you open this box, this is what you see:

The first item is a journal from The Neverending Story. It has a very soft leather cover and a red bookmark for you to write your own neverending story! The Neverending Story was a book turned into a movie from my childhood and I remember watching it several times. I think it's time for a re-watch.

Next was the t-shirt from Shirt Punch. It's a Harry Potter themed shirt, with a Deathly Hallows symbol, with the Resurrection Stone as a skull with Harry Potter's lightning scar. I think this looks a little too creepy for me to wear.

Another Harry Potter item! A pretty hefty keychain with the Hogwarts crest.

The only Game of Thrones item in the box - a Funko Legacy Collection series 1 action figure. I think Daenerys Targaryen is the best out of the series. I'm sad they did not include a Funko Pop Vinyl toy instead, as I don't collection action figures.

One more Harry Potter item - a film cell book mark. This is pretty neat because everyone gets a different cell from the film. I got one with Harry on it.

Only one Lord of the Rings item?! It was only an art print featuring Bag End.

Here's everything that came in the January 2016 Nerd Block Classic box:

The Nerd Block starts at $19.99 USD month to month, plus shipping and HST. The February subscriptions are open now and will include stuff from Deadpool and Batman.

Sci-Fi Block Subscription Box [January 2016 Unboxing]

The subscription box addiction continues! There was actually a 50% off discount code during Boxing Day, so J ordered the Sci-Fi Block over from the folks at Nerd Block. Since Nerd Block is based in Canada, this box arrived a lot faster than all the previous subscription boxes we had ordered.

There was not specific theme for the January 2016 Sci-Fi Block, but they did say that there was going to be goodies from The Terminator, Dr. Who and The Matrix.

The first thing we pulled out of the box was a Funko Pop vinyl from The Matrix, featuring Agent Smith! This is an older one, but it's always fun to get a Funko Pop and makes the box worth more, since Pops tend to go for $10 and up in Canada.

Next was a black t-shirt with a schematic of a Tardis from Dr. Who. I love schematic designs.

There was a Iron Giant 4 button set. The Iron Giant is an animated cult classic from the 90's and has some big names narrating including Jennifer Aniston, Harry Connick Jr. and Vin Diesel. I remember watching this movie as a kid, and I think it's time for a re-watch.

Some filler items were Dr. Who stickers. There was an entire sheet as well as an individual decal that had a few variations.

Another Funko item! A T800 Endoskeleton Funko ReAction figure from The Terminator. I'm not sure of the popularity of ReAction figures - it seems like a lot of subscription boxes have been using them as filler lately. This one is pretty neat though (scary looking!).

There was a blind bag included, which I love. This one was a Star Trek Skele-Trek, which is an odd combination. I guess people really like skeletons and zombies. We got Data (I think? It's hard to tell...) but the neck part looks like it was bent, so he is hunched over.

Here's all the goodies in the January 2016 Sci-Fi Block:

The Sci-Fi Block starts at $19.99 USD month to month, plus shipping and HST. The February subscriptions are open now and it sounds like another neat box - the items included something from Star Wars, Alien and The Guardians of the Galaxy. Keep in mind our dropping Canadian dollar before you subscribe though!
