Footloose, the remake of the 1984 film of the same name, gets a reboot this fall, with Kenny Wormald starring as Ren McCormack, a city kid from Boston, who moves to small town Bomont to live with his aunt and uncle after his mother dies from leukemia. He discovers there is a ban on dancing, loud rock music and there is a strict curfew for teens due to five kids who died in a car accident where alcohol was involved. Ren stands up and challenges the law to bring back dancing to the town. Dancing With the Stars Julianne Hough plays Ariel Moore, the Reverend's (Dennis Quaid) daughter.
I have never seen the original movie, but I have to assume that it was a lot better than the remake, if it was good enough for a remake. While I read this movie sticks very closely to the 1984 film, I thought a lot of the scenes were very silly and forced. It felt like the director couldn't making up his mind about the period of the movie - 1984 or 2011? Many things reminded me of more olden times with newer technology thrown in (iPods). Some of the scenes were awkwardly put into the movie and the dancing wasn't even that great. I didn't really think the movie was that great but maybe fans of the original Footloose may want to check it out.
Footloose comes out everywhere in theatres this Friday, October 14.
