Free Comic Book Day (May 4)
Free Comic Book Day is finally here! The first Saturday of every May, comic book shops all around town have free comics to give away! These comics are specially printed for this day as a way to introduce comics to people who may not be familiar with the range of comics that are out there, or just to add to the collection of avid comic readers. If you're lucky, some shops will also be giving away older issues of regular comics. Make sure to go to your nearest store early, as the comics do go fast, and most stores will limit you to five comics per person. Find your nearest comic book store here.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Infinite Possiblities Preview Party #GS4Canada
There was a drink especially made for the event - the Blue Galaxy! |
The back plate of the S4 doesn't have the slight curve of the S3, so there is no "bum" on the phone, which I actually really liked in the S3 because it made it fit more comfortably in my hand.
The phone boasts a 13-megapixel camera with a host of photo editing features that can spruce up your photos, including drama shots, erasing people in the backgrounds and creating a 9-second sound clip.
There are plenty of impressive new features on the S4. Some of my favourites include multi-window, allowing you to create a split screen of two apps, waving your hand to scroll through windows (goodbye fingerprints!) and Group Play, allowing you to share music, videos, documents and games with other phones, while letting you control the volume and surround sound on the other phones. S Health is another new app built into the phone, you can log the calories you consume, keep track of your exercise and use your phone as a pedometer.
Samsung has outdone themselves by creating an all-in-one phone. I was very impressed with the Galaxy S4 and would definitely suggest getting one if you are in the market for a new Android phone.
The rest of the evening was devoted to some great performances. Canadian group STARS came on first to do their set, and the crowd was definitely excited!
Samsung held Galaxy S4 Casting Calls, where the winner would have the chance to perform on stage at the launch party. Gio Levy won from Vancouver, and in between sets, he came out and serenaded us with the song that won him this amazing opportunity.
Like a mini Bruno Mars! |
It was another great launch party by Samsung and I had a lot of fun! Here's a video of STARS performing "Ageless Beauty" below. Check out my Youtube channel for more videos.

4th Annual Canadian Videogame Awards #CVA2013
Last week I attended the 4th Annual Canadian Videogames Awards, held at the Vancouver Convention Centre, right after Fan Expo. The awards are for games that were developed in Canada and released in 2012 and chosen by industry experts. I received a pair of tickets to attend as an audience member, and it was definitely interesting to watch the taping. The host was actor Elias Toufexis, known for his voice acting in Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell. There were many funny montages, and lots of voice actors for well known video games were presenters as well (which J was very excited about). It was definitely a big night for Ubisoft, who raked in the majority of the awards for Far Cry 3!

The Lone Ranger - New Trailer
A new trailer has been released today for Disney's summer flick, The Lone Ranger, starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer. Who else is excited for this movie?
Disney Pixar's "Monsters University" Enrolls Top Talent
Disney•Pixar’s
“Monsters University” welcomes some of Hollywood’s top stars to its
roster of voice talent for this summer’s frighteningly funny comedy
adventure, opening in theatres on June 21, 2013. Joining Billy Crystal
and John Goodman are Steve Buscemi, Helen Mirren, Alfred Molina, Dave
Foley, Sean P. Hayes, Joel Murray, Peter Sohn, Charlie Day, Nathan
Fillion, Bobby Moynihan, Julia Sweeney, Aubrey Plaza, Tyler Labine, John
Krasinski, Bonnie Hunt, Beth Behrs and John Ratzenberger. Also revealed
this week were the story and screenplay credits. Directed by Dan
Scanlon, “Monsters University” features a story and screenplay by Daniel
Gerson & Robert L. Baird (“Monsters, Inc.”) and Scanlon.
Scanlon
says the cast was able to bring the story to life with great ingenuity
and enthusiasm. “Working with this group of actors was an extraordinary
experience. They each brought a unique level of humour, emotion and
creativity to their work that not only complemented their individual
performances, but made the overall story come together in a really
wonderful way.”
The voice cast includes the following:
· Billy
Crystal (“Parental Guidance,” “When Harry Met Sally,” “City Slickers”)
reprises his role as Mike Wazowski, now a college-age monster who
follows his dream of becoming a Scarer at Monsters University.
· John
Goodman (“Argo,” “Flight,” “Trouble With the Curve”) returns as James
P. Sullivan (Sulley), an overly confident, young hotshot Scaring student
at Monsters University.
· Steve
Buscemi (“Boardwalk Empire”) rejoins the monster world as Randy Boggs, a
Monsters University freshman who is ready to experience all that
college has to offer (if only he can curb his habit of disappearing).
· Helen
Mirren (“Hitchcock,” “The Queen”) gives voice to Dean Hardscrabble,
legendary Scarer and hard-to-please head of Monsters University’s
prestigious School of Scaring.
· Alfred
Molina (TNT’s “Monday Mornings,” “The Da Vinci Code,” “Frida”) is the
voice of Professor Knight, an esteemed professor in Monsters
University’s School of Scaring.
· Dave
Foley (TV’s “NewsRadio,” “The Kids in the Hall”) as Terry Perry, the
skeptical half of a bickering two-headed monster and dedicated Oozma
Kappa (OK) brother.
· Sean
P. Hayes (“The Three Stooges,” TV’s “Up All Night”) gives voice to
Terri Perry, the more sensitive side of a two-headed Oozma Kappa (OK)
fraternity brother with Scaring aspirations.
· Joel
Murray (TV’s “Mad Men,” “Two and a Half Men”) voices Don Carlton, a
“mature” student at Monsters University and a founding member of the
Oozma Kappa (OK) fraternity.
· Pixar’s
Peter Sohn (“Ratatouille,” “Small Fry”) provides the voice of Scott
“Squishy” Squibbles, an undeclared sophomore at Monsters University and
Oozma Kappa (OK) fraternity member who still lives with his doting
mother.
· Charlie
Day (“Horrible Bosses,” “Pacific Rim,” TV’s “It’s Always Sunny in
Philadelphia”) provides the voice of the incomparable Art, an Oozma
Kappa (OK) fraternity brother with a questionable past.
· Nathan
Fillion (“Much Ado About Nothing,” “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters,”
TV’s “Castle”) portrays Johnny Worthington, the confident president of
Roar Omega Roar (ROR), a Monsters University fraternity that prides
itself on its notable Scarers.
· Bobby
Moynihan (NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” HBO’s “Girls,” DreamWorks
Studios’ “Delivery Man”) helps bring to life Chet Alexander, a
yes-monster member of the Roar Omega Roar (ROR) fraternity.
· Julia
Sweeney (TV’s “The Goode Family,” “Saturday Night Live”) lends her
voice to Ms. Squibbles, indulgent mother to Monsters University
sophomore Scott “Squishy” Squibbles.
· Aubrey
Plaza (“To Do List,” TV’s “Parks and Recreation”) gives voice to Claire
Wheeler, the somber president of Monsters University’s Greek Council
and emcee for the annual Scare Games.
· Tyler
Labine (“Tucker & Dale vs. Evil,” “Mad Love”) was tapped to voice
Brock Pearson, vice president of the Greek Council and enthusiastic
emcee of the Scare Games.
· John
Krasinski (“Promised Land,” TV’s “The Office”) provides the voice of
“Frightening” Frank McCay, a Scaring super star at Monsters, Inc.
· Bonnie
Hunt (TV’s “The Bonnie Hunt Show,” “Cheaper By the Dozen”) was called
on to provide the voice of young Mike Wazowski’s grade school teacher
Karen Graves.
· Beth Behrs (TV’s “2 Broke Girls”) serves as the voice of Carrie Williams, fearless leader of the Python Nu Kappa (PNK) sorority.
· John
Ratzenberger (“Cheers,” Disney•Pixar’s feature films) returns to the
Pixar recording studio as the voice of a Monsters, Inc. employee.
Screaming
with laughter and oozing with heart, Disney•Pixar’s “Monsters
University” is directed by Dan Scanlon (“Cars,” “Mater and the
Ghostlight,” “Tracy”), produced by Kori Rae (“Up,” “The Incredibles,”
“Monsters, Inc.”) and features music from future Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame inductee Randy Newman (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Toy Story 3”).

$200 Price Drop on Samsung Galaxy S3 at Mobilicity
Mobilicity has further dropped the price of the Samsung Galaxy S3 phone, no doubt to make room for the Galaxy S4 coming out later this month. If you have been on the fence about purchasing this amazing phone, now is the time! The pebble blue 16GB Galaxy S3 will be $399.99 (down from $599.99). If you were eyeing the marble white version (which seems to be more popular), then you're out of luck as it is still only $100 off at $499.99. Though the new Galaxy S4 will be the flagship phone for Samsung, the S3 is still one of the best smartphones on the market, and it's never too late to make the switch!
Pre-Order the Samsung Galaxy S4 Today
Samsung's newest phone, the Galaxy S4 will be available at Canadian retailers later this month, but you can pre-order one in stores starting today by putting down a $50 deposit. The phone is gorgeous, with a 5-inch Super AMOLED display, 1080p resolution, 2GB of RAM and a quad-core processor; a step up from the already impressive Galaxy S3. However, it has a price tag of $799.99 without contract, which it does make me think twice before purchasing it. Will you be pre-ordering the Samsung Galaxy S4?

How long have you kept your current glasses? Most people have been wearing their pair of glasses for three years ago or longer. It is highly suggested by professional ophthalmologists that you should have a yearly eye exam and replace your glasses regularly to ensure your eye health. If your prescription has changed but you still wear the old prescription eyeglasses, you are in high-risk of deteriorating your vision.
So are you thinking about getting a pair of new glasses but worried it would cost you an arm and a leg? Head over to Firmoo and get your free glasses now!

Disneynature's Bears: First Look Featurette
In an epic story of breathtaking scale, Disneynature’s new True Life Adventure “Bears” showcases a year in the life of two mother bears as they impart life lessons to their impressionable young cubs. Set against a majestic Alaskan backdrop teeming with life, their journey begins as winter comes to an end and the bears emerge from hibernation to face the bitter cold. The world outside is exciting—but risky—as the cubs’ playful descent down the mountain carries with it a looming threat of avalanches. As the season changes from spring to summer, the brown bear families must work together to find food—ultimately feasting at a plentiful salmon run—while staying safe from predators, including an ever-present wolf pack. “Bears” captures the fast-moving action and suspense of life in one of the planet’s last great wildernesses—where mothers definitely know best and their cubs’ survival hinges on family togetherness.
Directed by Alastair Fothergill (“Earth,” “African Cats” and “Chimpanzee”) and Keith Scholey (“African Cats”), “Bears” is in theatres April 18, 2014, to celebrate Earth Day. Billy Elliot The Musical Lights Up the Stage With Dance
Based on the 2000 movie of the same name, Billy Elliot the musical features music by Elton John and choreography by Peter Darling. Set during the 1984 coal miners' strike in Britain, a young Billy discovers his talent and love of ballet, which in turn inspires his community to help him achieve his dream of getting into the Royal Ballet School.
One of four rotating actors who plays Billy, Drew Minard was fabulous on opening night. Many of the child actors are 10-13 years in age, which makes it even more impressive! Jake Kitchin, playing Billy's best friend Michael, almost steals the show with "Expressing Yourself", a number where the two have fun cross-dressing. Janet Dickinson's Mrs. Wilkinson was enjoyable to watch as the ballet teacher, who really believes in Billy.
One of my favourite scenes was Billy's Angry Dance, where Billy let out his frustration and the young actor danced against police shields - such talent!
An amazing performance by the entire cast, Billy Elliot will leave you feeling good and itching to dance.
Billy Elliot will be playing at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre until April 7, 2013. Visit Broadway Across Canada for more information or purchase your tickets at Ticketmaster.
