As a holiday promotion, Black's Photography in Pacific Centre downtown is offering a Canon PowerShot A800 camera absolutely free when you prepay for 1,000 4x6 prints ($199.99 value). This works out to be about 20cents per photo, which is pretty decent. This may be a great gift to yourself for those that print a lot of photos. I used to print hundreds of photos so I wish they had this promotion going on before! Starbucks is offering a different deal a day for 12 days starting December 1st to December 12. This is a great time to pick up a gift for the coffee loving family member or friend. Check out the deals they are offering here.

Epic Mickey (Wii) - $9.83 @ Walmart

This week, Walmart has some great sales on games. The one that stands out is Disney's Epic Mickey for the Nintendo Wii, regularly $29.99 and now only $9.83!

Remember you can take the flyer to another electronics store to price match the item. Futureshop and Best Buy will also take off an additional 10% off the price difference so you will be able to get Epic Mickey for only $7.81!

CarrotLines iPhone App - Make Healthy Choices with One Scan!

CarrotLines is an iPhone app that allows you to scan food packaging barcodes to find out nutritional information quickly without having to read through all the labels. This is a pretty cool and innovative idea because everyone is always concerned about what ingredients are in foods, especially if you are trying to stay healthy or if you allergic to certain types of food. You can set the app to tell you what you want about a product - nutrition, allergens or lifestyle. Best of all, it's a free app! Just head on over to iTunes to download it onto your iPhone (or iPad!). When you're at the grocery store, just scan the barcode and it will tell you the information you want to know, based on what you selected and can help you make decisions faster about the products you buy. Don't have an iPhone? Don't fret, there will eventually be an app for Android users as well!

Buy a McCafe Beverage, Help the Burnaby Christmas Bureau (Nov 25-26)

The Christmas Cheer group at Burnaby North Secondary school has teamed up with McDonald's to raise money for the Burnaby Christmas Bureau. This Friday and Saturday only (November 25-26), purchase any McCafe beverage and $1 will go towards the Burnaby Christmas Bureau. The two participating locations are the McDonald's at Capitol Hill and Brentwood Town Centre. The drinks include mochas, lattes, cappuccinos, americanos and hot chocolate. What’s better is that there are coupons for McCafe drinks floating around that came in the mail, including a coupon for a free drink!

This fundraising effort is organized by students of the school who volunteer their own time to raise money each year to donate to the Christmas Bureau, so go out and support them this weekend!

The Muppets - Movie Review

The Muppets are finally back on the big screen after a 12 year haitus. The story follows Walter, a huge Muppet fan, and his brother Gary (Jason Segel) who must help the Muppets raise $10 million to save the Muppet Theatre from being torn down by Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) who plants to drill for oil underneath the theater. The Muppets have all gone their seperate ways but Walter reunites them and together they put on one last show.

I'm a huge Muppets fan, so as soon as I heard there was a new Muppets movie coming out, I knew I had to watch it. I found the movie a little cheesy but hilarious. There is a lot of humor only adults would get and like most Muppets movies, there are plenty of celebrity cameos including Sarah Silverman, Jack Black and Zach Galifianakis. It's a great movie to reminisce about the Muppets and their history as it includes the original theme song of The Muppet Show, which aired on tv in the 1970's and 80's. Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy are always really fun to watch and the songs are catchy (Mahna Mahna plays in the credits!). Go watch it!

The Muppets comes out in theatres tomorrow, November 23rd.

Price Drop on Blackberry Playbook (Nov 18)

Attention all techies! The inevitable price-drop for the Blackberry Playbook has finally come. Starting November 18th (November 16th in Quebec), there will be a $300 price drop on all models of the Playbook. The new prices will be:

16gb for $198 (Was $498)
32gb for $298 (Was $598)
64gb for $398 (Was $698)

These are pretty decent prices for the Playbook so make sure you go early to ensure you are able to get one. Don’t let this be another HP Touchpad fiasco – stores may be out of stock within hours, though I think people may think twice about dropping $198 on a tablet. The sale prices seem to be only happening at Wal-Mart, though other stores may follow suite. Remember you can always price match at other electronic stores as well.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Midnight Launch - Nov 7

Attention gamers! Best Buy is holding a launch party for the newest Call of Duty game - Modern Warfare 3 this Monday, starting at 9pm. The parties will only be happening in Vancouver (Cambie location) and Toronto (Bay & Dundas). All other Best Buy locations will be open at midnight, November 8 at 12:01am for customers to purchase the game.

At the launch parties, you can be one of the first to play Modern Warfare 3 with the XBox street teams. Line up and be entered into a draw to win a Hardened Edition copy of the game. There will be other swag given away as well. There will also be a costume contest - dress up and you will be in the running for another Hardened Edition copy! A green screen will be on location to embed you into the game - pretty cool!
