Kellogg's All-Bran Bar - Product Review

I blogged about getting a sample of Kellogg's All-Bran Bars earlier, and I received my sample ages ago and I really enjoyed it! I got the Honey Nut flavour, and thought it wouldn't really taste that great because I've tried Kellogg's All-Bran granola bars before and wasn't really a fan. But the new Honey Nut All-Bran Bars has a pleasant sweet flavour and is great for a quick breakfast or a quick snack. I went out and bought 2 boxes using the coupons that came with the sample. I'm munching on one right now, and thought I'd post about it to let you know my thoughts.

SPC VIP available now!

I blogged about the Student Price Card (SPC) before and mentioned that if you are not a student but still want to get this great discount card, LouLou magazine usually offers a SPC VIP card that does not require you to show student ID.

The offer for the 2010/2011 card has been valid for a few weeks now (just too lazy to post about it, sorry). You need to follow this link in order to receive the VIP card with your magazine subscription. It's $14.95 + taxes for 8 issues of LouLou magazine and the SPC VIP, which isn't too bad, since the regular SPC is $9 in stores. There are also a few new partners that are offering discounts this year, check out the list here.

I didn't think I'd shop at many of these stores when I got my card last year and I already saved over $60 (I paid $10.50 after shipping for my card).

The Prestige - Movie Review

After watching Inception, I wanted to see more films written and directed by Christopher Nolan (aside from Batman) and someone mentioned The Prestige.

The Prestige features Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale, as two rival stage magicians Robert Angier and Alfred Borden. They are always trying to top each other and even stoops to sabotaging each others tricks and shows. The story gets all crazy near the end and you can't help but be in shock and awe. Maybe I will go borrow the book this movie was based on.

If you have ever watched The Illusionist with Edward Norton and Jessica Biel, you'd like The Prestige, as both movie are similar (with surprise endings) and revolve around magicians.

Charlie St. Cloud - Movie Review

I won a pair of tickets to an advanced screening to Charlie St. Cloud tonight and just got back home.

The movie stars Zac Efron as Charlie St. Cloud, a great sailor with a bright future ahead of him (a sailing scholarship at an Ivy League school). It's cut short when an accident takes his little brother from him. He doesn't go to school and sticks around instead, to keep a promise he made to his brother. Five years later, an old high school classmate Tess (Amanda Crew) comes back and Charlie becomes torn between his promise to his brother and moving on with his life and being with Tess.

While I don't typically watch drama, I thought Charlie St. Cloud was a pretty good movie. Zac Efron plays his role well (though I can't help but think of High School Musical when I see him haha) and the story is interesting. It's no Inception though.

Charlie St. Cloud comes out this Friday, July 30. For more information on the movie, go here.

Starcraft II Launch at Best Buy Tonight (July 26)

Best Buy is holding another launch party at their Cambie St. location in Vancouver, this time for Starcraft II. I don't play this, so can't tell you what it's about. But the party starts at 9pm, and you probably have chance to win gift cards and other prizes.

There are 5 Toshiba Ultimate Gaming Prize Packs to be won with purchase of the game. In addition, the first 150 customers receive a free Sidewinder X3 gaming mouse ($50 value). The store opens at 12:01 am.

If you're not up for staying up late, the first 30 customers receive a free Starcraft Race T-shirt with purchase of Starcraft II on July 27.

For more details on the launch party, go here.

PS. My situation with Best Buy still hasn't been resolved because the TV my dad wants isn't in stock anymore, so the issue has been left hanging...I'm still annoyed at Best Buy. But just posting about the launch party for those who don't have a beef with them.

Along with the rest of Super Saturday at Sears promos, they are offering a free jumbo pack of Huggies Newborn Diapers ($19.99 value) to the first 24 customers to go to the children's wear department, between 8am to 12pm. Yea, 24 is a really odd number.

Real Dairy Ice Cream $2 (after coupon) @ Safeway This Week

Safeway has Nestle's Real Dairy ice cream advertised for $5 this week. Those who received the $3 off Real Dairy coupon from Shoppers Voice can get a tub for only $2! What a steal! And perfect for this summer weather. This is the cheapest I've EVER seen Real Dairy ice cream - usually the "sale" price is $6!

I have two coupons so I'm gonna give it a try and see if it's THAT good. I'm getting chocolate and natural vanilla, I think. Any flavor suggestions?

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass - Game Review

I finally finished playing The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for the Nintendo DS a couple of months ago, and never got around to posting my review for it. This is the first Zelda game I ever played (yes, I was very deprived from video games as a child).

In The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, you start off as Link searching for the Ghost Ship but Tetra gets kidnapped! It's up to Link to rescue her, and on the way, meets a fairy named Ciela and a treasure hunter, Linebeck. I enjoyed the way the game is told as a story, and is packed with adventures and puzzles, and injected with some humor. The controls were easy to use with the new touchscreen system. While enjoyable, I began to dread going back to the same temple and going through all the levels again and again and again. I was told this is a common theme in all Zelda games, which made me avoid opening the newest Zelda game for the DS, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, even though I've had it for almost half a year now. Yes, it's just sitting in my room, unopened.

There are side quests that include fishing and finding items. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is a very entertaining game that keeps you busy - make sure you have large chunks of time to play before you take a crack at it. Enjoy!

L'Oreal Paris Go 360° Clean - Product Review

L'Oreal Paris sent out samples of their newest skincare line, face wash Go 360° Clean. Each bottle comes with a scrublet, a soft and flexible cleaning disc to use while washing your face. The face wash comes in four different lines: Deep Cream Cleanser, Deep Facial Lotion Cleanser for Sensitive Skin, Deep Facial Gel Cleanser and Deep Exfoliating Scrub.

I was sent a small sample of the the Deep Exfoliating Scrub (no scrublet though) and tried it out last night. The first thing I noticed was the pleasant fruity smell of the face wash (it's apricot). The cleanser exfoliates with natural apricot seed beads and salicylic acid to help your skin stay clean and smooth.

I really liked it. The nice smell was great, and the cleansing beads were very fine and felt really nice when I was scrubbing my face. It's completely different than St. Ives Apricot Scrubs, which have more coarse beads and you're like sandpapering your face off. I would definitely go out and buy a full sized product after I'm done with my sample.

1/2 Priced Movie Combos Every Tuesday!

Telus Tuesdays are back, with Cineplex theatres offering half-priced movie combos every Tuesday. You pay half price for your movie admission, regular popcorn and regular drink. Pretty sweet deal, considering how expensive a night out at the movies can be nowadays. The offer comes in the combo, but some theatres may allow you to buy the ticket for half price only, so you'll just have to ask (my theater allows it).

Some advice though, if you are planning to go out to the movies while this promotion is on - GO EARLY. Like seriously. The line ups are insane, and the movie you want to see might be sold out before you can get it. I went 1 hour and 15 minutes before my movie (granted, it was Inception, and everyone wants to see that) and it was sold out before I even got to the front of the line (I had to wait like half an hour before I got up to the cashier), but luckily my friend went a little earlier and saved me a seat. Other than that, enjoy!

Inception - Movie Review

I went to watch Inception tonight because I heard it was a really good movie, and I wasn't disappointed! And yes, I paid for a movie. Shocking, I know. But the Telus Tuesday's offer is back again so movie tickets were half price. Anyway.

Christopher Nolan writes and directs his newest movie, which had been shrouded in secrecy for the longest time. Leonardo DiCaprio plays Dom Cobb, the best in his line of work - extraction, stealing secrets from people's subconscious while they dream. Because of his skill, he also made himself a fugitive and is always on the run. Now Cobb gets a chance of having the slate wiped clean so he can go back home to see his children, but only if he can do the impossible - inception. He and his team has to plant an idea into their target's mind but of course, there are obstacles in the way and the risks are high.

Inception boasts a stellar cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Michael Cain and Cillian Murphy. It's definitely a must-see and is bound to be this summer's blockbuster hit! 5/5 stars!

Went to The Body Shop Again

My sister had to go to the library to return some books today, so off I went with her...so that I can check out The Body Shop at that mall! And borrow some books of course lol. Today I found Cucumber Refreshing Water for $5.99 - $5 coupon. So after tax it was only $1.11. Sweet deal! Yay, more toner!

My sis wanted it too so she bought one as well, woot woot! She also got a sample of body butter - I didn't ask for a sample today because I thought we were in a hurry! Sheesh. But yes, for those of you who didn't know (I only found out yesterday), TBS will give you a sample of their products - just ask one of the salespeople and they will squeeze out the creams or whatever you want into a little container for you to take home to try! Pretty sweet, since TBS stuff is not that cheap and you might want to try out the products to make sure you like it and your skin can take it!

How did everyone make out on the last day of the $5 off The Body Shop and $5 off Babies R Us coupon?

Saturday, July 17, 2010

Shopping today!

So did everyone get a chance to use the $5 Babies R Us and the $5 The Body Shop coupons yet?

I went to the mall with my sister, and we got these:

2x Box of 400 Q-tips (for mum) - $3.99 each
1x Travel Sized box of Q-tips - $1.49
1x Small jar of Vaseline - $1.99
4x Baby Mum-Mums - 4 for $6

Used 3x $5 coupons (3 transactions) and paid $2.64 for everything after tax!

Those of you with babies or need baby food can do better and only pay about 20cents or so, since you can buy a couple jars of baby food to top your purchase off to $5. I gave one of my extra coupons to a lady in front of me who had a basketful of baby items. :)

We went to The Body Shop next and I only picked up a bottle of toner regular priced at $11 - $5 coupon. $6 + tax. Not too bad, since I'm going to need some toner soon anyway. There were some items that were $3-4 that you can use your $5 coupon on, but I was too afraid to try LOL. I have read that a ton of people were able to get these items for free though.

Tomorrow is the last day to use either coupons, so if you haven't used these GREAT coupons yet, go go go now! It's great to stock up on gifts you need for others (or yourself) or people you know who are expecting, as a lot of the baby items at Babies R Us are about $5.99 or so, and you can find a bunch of items at The Body Shop for $5.99 as well.

Shopping Again

It's been a LONG time since I've been doing any shopping, but my dad need a new toothbrush and I saw that it was on sale at Zellers, so off I went off to London Drugs.

2x Nice n Easy Root Touch Up - $4.99 ea - $10 coupons = FREE
2x Listerine - $6.99?, PM Zellers $4 - $4.50 coupons = $3.50 for both
1x Oral-B Vitality - $29.99, PM Zellers $20 - $10 coupons = $10

Not the best shopping, but I had to get these things right away. If I had known my parent's used the Oral-B Vitality toothbrushes, I would have bought them a few months ago when there were a lot of coupons and I could have gotten them for free!! Boohoo! :(

The Kids Are All Right - Movie Review

I went to watch an advanced screening of The Kids Are All Right, staring Julianne Moore, Annette Bening and Mark Ruffalo. Moore and Bening play a lesbian couple, Jules and Nic, whose kids contact their biological father, Paul (Mark Ruffalo), who is surprised to find out he's a dad. He becomes involved in their lives, which leads to a bit of havoc within the family.

The movie was a good take on a non-conventional family and had some great laughs in it too. I didn't really like how they left Paul hanging though, like, what happens to him? Anyway, the acting was pretty solid, and overall I'd say it was a good movie.

The Kids Are All Right comes out in theaters this week (it's come out in other places already July 9th). Read more about the film here.

Since I started watching The Gates, I felt like watching more stuff that Rhona Mitra stars in, so I pulled out my set of Boston Legal. Boston Legal is a spin off of the series The Practice, where a few characters from that show moved over to this show. It started out as such a good and clever law show, but after all my favorite actresses left (at the beginning of season two), it totally went downhill. They couldn't seem to keep any of the actors around long enough to establish a good cast of characters - I guess they knew a sinking ship when they saw one. Everyone started to get outrageous and crazy, and the whole show became a joke. I stopped watching after a while, but I definitely suggest watching the first season (I'm on episode 15 now) and probably second season as well. I keep rooting for Alan Shore and Tara Wilson's (played by Mitra) relationship <3, but she leaves soon after and Alan gets sad and I'm sad because there is no romance anymore, LOL. Maybe I should start watching soaps or something instead, hmm.

The Gates

Now that rerun season is here and all my favorite tv shows are off the air, it's time to either catch up on older shows I've never finished watching, or find some of the new shows that are being churned out. (I'm doing a bit of both.) I was reading a magazine and the new show The Gates caught my eye, because it had an actress I like in it (Rhona Mitra) (though it said the show is pretty crappy). What turned me off a little was that she was a vampire. I don't have anything against vampires; I like vampire shows and movies as much as the next person, but I know the writers only wrote that in because of the whole Twilight craze, and I HATE Twilight. I watched the pilot, and there are also wolves (werewolves). Then I watched the second episode, and there's now a succubus. Um, it's getting a little weird. I'm not sure if I'll continue watching this show or not, favorite actress or no. It's so unclear what is really happening in the plot.

What show do you suggest I watch?

Nintendo Club Elite Status Rewards

The Nintendo Club's year is over (July 1 to June 30), which means the prizes for Elite status members will be getting their rewards! This year, the prize for Gold Status members is another calendar, the same as last year, but with different pictures. The Platinum Status members is a Super Mario Characters Figurine.

I've made it to Platinum status this year, but I'm a little disappointed by the rewards. Last year, the Platinum members got to choose from a Mario hat or the Punch Out Wii game. I was kind of hoping to get a game :( Boo. I don't think I'll be able to reach any of the Elite statuses this Nintendo year, since I don't really have anymore games to buy besides Mario Galaxy 2.
